DWC was prepared to admit only a total of 554 new students. Last month, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, allocated a budget to admit more than 3000 additional UAE national students to government universities and colleges. The budget increase gave all qualified high school graduates the chance to join government higher education institutes.
"The budget increase rescued those students who were ready to start receiving the necessary education and training required to join Dubai's fast growing economy, but were denied such a chance due to insufficient funds,"
noted Dr. Howard Reed, Senior Director at the Higher Colleges of Technology and Director of DWC.
"DWC has now admitted all high school graduates who met entrance requirements and chose to join DWC. The decision to accommodate all qualified students confirms UAE's strong dedication and commitment to education," he added.
DWC will start the new academic year with two new majors in Real Estate and Human Resources and a new Bachelor degree in Accounting. New students will start a two-week long orientation program on August 31 which will include introducing them to college services and departments and the academic rules and regulations at DWC.
"Several activities are planned to help them make the transition from high school to higher learning and to help equip them in acquiring the right skills and attitudes that are imperative for their success in college. We are committed to the development of our students, and orientation is the beginning of that journey,"
said Mary Lackie, Student Affairs Supervisor.
