DuPont promotes sustainable agriculture to combat food crisis

DuPont has aligned with Bunge Limited to create The Solae Company in its ongoing efforts to scientifically develop sustainable solutions essential to a safer and healthier life for people everywhere.

The Solae Company operates in over 100 countries worldwide and produces a full range of soy ingredient products, including textured vegetable proteins, textured and functional soy concentrates and isolates, and polymers.

Given the worldwide concern about the growing food crisis, food producers, manufacturers and distributers alike are looking for sustainable, environmentally sound agricultural options. Soy provides plant-based protein of equal quality to that of other sources such as meat, eggs, and milk and its production requires substantially less natural resources. By using more soy ingredients than animal products, the trend is shifting toward further development of sustainable food alternatives for the world's growing population.

The alliance that created Solae is part of DuPont's food industry growth strategy and showcases the benefits of soybean products as a sustainable alternative to animal products by bringing more great tasting, nutritious soy-foods to the marketplace.

Soy protein is increasingly seen as a heart-healthy, nutritious and savory alternative to animal protein as a means to reduce cholesterol, increase bone density, control weight and improve overall nutrition. Unlike animal proteins, soy protein is cholesterol free, low in saturated fat, and lactose-free. Moreover, soy protein is categorized as a high-quality, complete protein with nutritional benefits that is a good source of phosphorus, potassium, B vitamins, zinc, iron and the antioxidant vitamin E.

Khaled El-Dessouky, DuPont Egypt's Country Manager said:
"There is no denying that recent food issues have impacted us all, whether it's price increases on basic commodities or shortages of goods altogether. At DuPont, we are committed to developing science and technology that helps improve the lives of every man, women and child. Our commitment extends to the food industry and our soy products as well, where we've been putting science to work to find sustainable, nutritious and tasty alternatives to alleviate the growing food crisis."

DuPont has been operating in Egypt since 2000 with the opening of its office in Maadi, and the company today has nine active business units in Cairo. DuPont's presence in the country and its growing local team demonstrate the company's solid involvement in the Egyptian market and its commitment to bringing Egypt up-to-date with the world's most innovative science developments.
