He toured the BIHR classrooms and premises and interacted with the Bahraini students studying there who have been sponsored by the Labour Fund.
'I am delighted with the progress made in implementing the Labour Fund's vision to equip Bahrainis with the skills and attitude needed to succeed in the retail and hospitality industries,'
Dr. Al Baharna said.
'During my meeting with the Bahraini students studying at the BIHR under the LF plan, I could sense their eagerness and seriousness to gain qualifications and make a place for themselves in the jobs market. They are a fine example for all young people in Bahrain who are seriously contemplating career options and how to equip themselves for a bright future.'
Dr. Al Baharna also praised the BIHR for its efforts to maintain high standards in training Bahrainis.
'By working closely with training providers such as the BIHR, which is rooted in the local workplace, the Labour Fund is seeking to create a corps of Bahrain-based training facilities that will understand the needs of Bahrain-based employers and respond with tailor-made training programmes for Bahrainis,' he commented, 'The BIHR is a shining example of the private sector's response to local training needs and co-operation with the government's efforts.'
Responding to his praise, BIHR Chairman Mohammad Dadabhai said the Institute's interaction with the Labour Fund had strengthened its resolve to create more training programmes for Bahrainis.
'The faith of the Labour Fund in the BIHR has made us more determined to strengthen our work and continue to create tailor-made programmes for the Bahrain market,' Dadabhai said, 'The leadership and government of Bahrain have clearly spelt out their vision for the future and it is only through a synergy of the private sector and government initiatives that this will be achieved. The training of Bahrainis for the hospitality and retail sectors is one example of this plan in action.'
The Labour Fund's agreement with the Bahrain Institute of Hospitality and Retail envisages the training of 1870 Bahrainis for jobs in the hospitality and retail sectors. Of these, 300 will get training for middle-level positions and 50 Bahrainis will obtain a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. Moreover, the agreement provides for training 20 nationals to work in HR positions as 'Certified Human Resources Manager' which is a globally recognized professional certificate awarded by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. The agreement also includes the training of 650 trainees in the field of retail, where the Institute follows the curriculum of the respected Australian Retail Association.
Dadabhai said, 'Training in the hospitality sector has become a professional process that depends on theoretical and practical training. Moreover, this detailed training process enables Bahrainis to expand their horizons by making them capable of working not just in the field of hospitality but also in any area that requires direct dealing with customers such as service centers (call centers), travel sector, airlines, marketing, sales, human resources, public relations and others.'
