The Champion Kids program saw two Egyptian children win a draw for a once in a lifetime trip to China to attend the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which McDonald's is also the Official Restaurant of.
The amount of the donation was raised in a campaign in which a number of McDonald's restaurant's participated by allocating a day's worth of income towards the EPC.
"We'd like to thank McDonald's team for the interest they have shown in promoting healthier and more active lifestyles for Egyptians, and for their support of the Egyptian Paralympics team,"
said Dr Nabil Salem, President of the EPC.
A team of 39 athletes will be soon travelling to Beijing to compete in the Paralympics, each of them hoping to return with prestigious medals, as they have done many times before.
"McDonald's is proud of the Egyptian Paralympics team and their achievements over the years. We wish them the best of luck in this next set of competitions, and we are sure they will do well,"
said Mr. Mohamed Mansour, General Manager - McDonald's Egypt.
The EPC was established as it is known today in 1982, and for the last two decades has encouraged athletes with special needs to make their dreams of competition on a global scale true. Many of them have returned triumphant with Gold Medals in a number of sports such as power lifting, athletics, table tennis, wheelchair volleyball, goalball for blind and swimming.
