Palm Atlantis on fire

The Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai has caught fire, just weeks before it is due to open. Fire fighters are on scene battling the blaze at the hotel, which was in its soft launch phase. The blaze, which can be seen from Dubai's mainland, is in the reception area. Hotel bosses have not yet said if the fire will push back the 1,539-room Atlantis' scheduled launch date of 24 September.
