As a subscription service, the Alerts provide a good example of Qtel's advanced technology supporting people's particular needs and culture, according to Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director of Group Communications, Qtel.
"The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time of deep reflection and sacrifice and we felt it was important to provide the people of Qatar with initiatives that support their observation of the Holy Month,"
he said.
New technology and media are increasingly enabling people to stay in touch with Islamic culture, even as the cities they live in grow and become more populous, working in partnership with the traditional call to prayer.
"Qtel's SMS Prayer Timing Alert Service is an example of how we can continue to value our traditions when deploying new technology," said Al Mutawa
The SMS Prayer Time Alert Service is available now and customers can easily subscribe using their mobile phone. The service is available to all Mobile GMS and Hala prepaid customers.
In addition to the Prayer Time Alert Service, Qtel has also developed a wide range of special services and initiatives for Ramadan. It is will utilize its advanced multimedia services to provide people with religious content throughout Ramadan.
QTel is also involved in a broad number of special community and charitable projects, including its "Back to School" campaign, which has seen major donations to government departments and charities.
