Mecca expansion curbs Umrah visas

Ongoing expansion works in the holy sites in Mecca has led to reduced travelers, The Peninsula has reported. Travel agencies in Qatar said only Qatari passengers are seen booking as Saudi authorities have stopped issuing Umrah visas. Mecca municipal authorities have served notice to over 300 buildings and hotels for demolition as part of the Saudi government's plan to redevelop the east side of the Makkah Harem Area. Those included in the first phase of the demolition are Sofital, as well as New Safa, Grand Makkah, Grand Umrah, Firdaus Makkah, White Palace and Elaf Al Huda.
