Katia Galabova brings a wealth of experience and insight to the council having had widespread experience with regional business practices and a close working relationship with the Bulgarian business community in the UAE since 1991.
Her appointment demonstrates the industrious approach taken by the BBC to support the development of Bulgarian businesses in Dubai. Bulgaria is a part of the European Union and has had strong commercial and economic relations with the UAE since 1975.
"We are witnessing strong interest by both Bulgarian nationals and UAE nationals in furthering business operations; recently we saw a substantial increase in UAE firms setting up businesses in Bulgaria,"
said Galabova.
Bulgaria has a long standing reputation in providing excellent standards of education. The quality of education is a "trade mark" to almost all Bulgarian universities. The diplomas from most universities in Bulgaria are recognized by the authorities of many countries.
Aside from economic ties, Galabova emphasized the BBC's aim in creating a social and cultural bridge between the two countries.
A recent networking dinner saw over 50 different nationalities including Arabs and Asians attend who graduated from Bulgarian universities.
There are approximately 5,000 Bulgarian nationals living in the UAE at present. In 1991, the Bulgarian community consisted of 31 families with more numbers choosing to come to the UAE since.
Bulgarian business professionals have been taking an active interest in expanding business into the UAE and GCC markets and also hold senior positions within the UAE construction and baking sectors.
Keeping with its commitment to encourage trade relations, the BBC is hosting a formal dinner dedicated on the Real Estate Business in Dubai and Bulgaria, scheduled for the last week of September.
