The event was attended by the CIO's, IT managers and Security specialists of high profile government entities, banks, telcom companies and corporate organisations.
Mr. Nidal Othman - Regional Sales & Marketing Manager at Starlink presented e-DMZ Security solution on 'Managing privileged users' access to sensitive systems that needs to be centralized, policy-driven, and automated as the manual paper or spreadsheet-based solutions are insecure, expensive, and do not scale, and cannot be sufficiently audited. Privileged user and password management encompasses password vault products, fine-grained administrative policy management, and provisioning add-on solutions.' Nidal said.
'Operating systems running on critical servers and even high-end business applications do not always have appropriate control on the administrative passwords for granting privileged access. There is an increasing pressure from both internal auditing and government compliance agencies for enterprises to know the details of privilege access users and the time frame during which Access was provide and what privilege access rights were used during that time.' he added.
Nidal explained that 'as organizations grow in size and complexity, the number of administrators accessing the sensitive systems or data grows as well.
Spreadsheets, sealed envelopes, printouts, sticky notes, and other old-fashioned ways of managing access and passwords on sensitive systems do not scale, does not provide sufficient levels of security, and lacks auditing details which is the requirement of auditors today.
Yet organizations need to grant certain administrators the privileged access to sensitive systems like the Windows domain controllers, UNIX root, network devices, and databases to name a few. Organizations must also make such access available in a cost-effective and timely fashion to enable system administrators address production issues and perform regular maintenance activities.'
He explained that 'e-DMZ Security is the market leader and innovator for privileged password management and remote vendor access and monitoring. These solutions are deployed in the Corporate organisations in the Middle East such as banks, telcom and oil & gas sectors who use the solution to protect their core and most critical applications.'
Nidal demonstrated the solution with a walk through of the key features that resolved the customer's challenges of managing and monitoring the privileged users activities.
At the end of the seminar, Mr. M.K. Janaki Raman - General Manager, Bahwan IT added 'I strongly believe that the solution has created a great interest in all of us as it fills a serious gap in security practice and improves the level of internal security and auditing to protect and monitor the IT infrastructure, so it is a 'must to have' technology.'
The seminar was co-sponsored by SAAPA Consulting Technologies, Abu Dhabi the market leader in providing solutions for audit and compliance requirements. Mr. S. Sree Praveen - SAAPA Sales Director said 'We have identified huge potential mainly for the banks to use PUPM solution in order to meet Basel II and PCI DSS compliance requirements, as the banks are taking high risk in the current manual process to audit and monitor the privileged user access of the core banking application and sensitive data and this needs to be automated and audited on real-time.'
