Firmly established as the largest and most popular technology retail event in the Middle East, this year's event will be held at the Dubai Airport Expo from 18 - 24 October 2008. The event is all set to emulate the outstanding achievements of previous editions with more big names, additional events and more choice adding to the appeal of the show.

Ms Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions and Events Management of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the organiser of the show, feels that the timing of Gitex Shopper coincides perfectly with the new consumer shopping trend.

"IT and electronics have become an integral part of people's everyday lives, be it at work or home. This is being reflected in the increased spend on consumer electronics across the region, and with Gitex Shopper's reputation for always showcasing the latest from across the globe, we are confident that this year's event will exceed all expectations"

said Ms Loh.

Prominent regional retailers as well as established international brand names are returning to the event with an enhanced presence this year, buoyed by the fact that the people of the region are spending more money than ever before on consumer electronics and mobility products. According to research firm IDC, IT spending in the Middle East and Africa will amount to $40bn in 2008 alone, and the Gulf countries will account for nearly 23% of that total. Regional telecom giant Etisalat have confirmed their participation for the first time ever to unveil a host of new consumer products and Jacky's Electronics will return with a formidable presence across all three halls, promoting their entire line of products. Other giants in the industry, include Jumbo Electronics, Emirates Computers, Emax, Compume, Cellucom and Oasis Entertainment to name a few, all showcasing the latest and hottest products on the market. According to Mr Arun Nagar, CEO and MD of Cellucom, the show is the perfect platform to unveil new products. "Visitors will have the opportunity to go through a completely new Experience in Mobility Solutions in addition to the promotions and offers on all the solutions."

In addition to the unveiling of new consumer products, Etisalat will be the main sponsor of this year's new feature Gitex Digital Game World, a live interactive gaming segment that will add an exciting new dimension to the event. Tailor-made for digital entertainment, digital content and inter-connectivity, Gitex Digital Game World is designed to give the fastest growing IT market segment in the region an exclusive platform to entertain its target audience. Organised with Electronic Sports League (ESL), 16 regional teams will battle it out at the Gitex Digital Game World Championship. Teams looking to take part can register now for the event at www.gitexshopperdubai.com.

Gitex Shopper 2008 will be held at the Central, West and East Halls in Dubai Airport Expo from 18 - 24 October 2008 and will open its doors from 11am to 10pm from 18 - 23 October and from 3pm to 10pm on 24 October.
