The IBQ Communicator Awards are designed to promote the importance of public speaking and to encourage effective communication and leadership skills in the local community. The finals will be held at the Ramada Hotel on 21 November 2008, where IBQ will present awards to winners in the International and Humorous speech categories.
Peter Wilkes, Deputy General Manager of IBQ, said:
"The art of effective communication is becoming increasingly important in the workplace. At IBQ, we believe in the importance of promoting these skills, and we encourage open communication among ourselves and our customers."
Mr Wilkes added, "It is this ability to listen and respond to our customers that has earned us the title of 'Best Customer Service in the Middle East' this year. We are committed to help our local community benefit from these essential skills, and the 'IBQ Communicator Awards' provides a right platform towards this end."
The ICC-One Toastmasters is one of 20 other Toastmaster clubs operating in Qatar and is also a member of Toastmasters International. The clubs were originally set up to practice public speaking in a mutually supportive and informal environment. In this way people from different backgrounds and professional experiences can learn together while improving their communication and leadership skills.
"A company's success depends on communication. Employees face endless challenges as they deal with one another and with customers day after day. How well they communicate can determine whether a company grows into an industry leader or joins thousands of other businesses mired in mediocrity,"
said M.I. Farid, Founder President of the ICC-One Toastmasters.
Layla Saad, one of last year's award winners, said, "Taking part in the IBQ Communicator Awards was a truly rewarding experience for me. It gave me the chance to test my public speaking skills with people of all ages and backgrounds. Taking part in the competition gave me a greater sense of self-confidence and encouraged me to continue to pursue public speaking. I am really glad I took part in the competition, and would encourage anyone who is interested in public speaking to also take part."
