The "green" iftar welcomed esteemed members of the region's thriving business community, respected personalities, EEG CSR Network members, EEG corporate members, honorary members of the Group, as well as United Nations Global Compact participants from the GCC states Local Network.

To commemorate the spiritual connection between man and nature, and highlighting Islam's message of environmental stewardship, guests at the iftar contributed their favoured indigenous trees to be dedicated to selected charity and government schools in the various Emirates.

The special lecture was given in Arabic by Dr. Ahmed Al Kubaisi, prominent Islamic scholar; and in English by Dr. Abdul Munim Bellah, urosurgeon, environmentalist, Islamic scholar and presenter. Together, they painted a vivid picture of the current relationship between man and his environment citing that immoralities to nature are being bombarded on land and sea at man's hands.

Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG and Board member of UN Global Compact said:
"As Emirates Environmental Group, we would like to thank all our distinguished guests for joining us for a "green" endeavour on this most special month of Ramadan. We are here to join our voices with great people from the government, the private sector, and the broader EEG family. We are facing the second half of 2008 with even more optimism. We are excited to witness the fast growing interest in CSR issues, and we are pleased to have new organizations to join us in the EEG CSR Network, and in relation to the UN Global Compact. The CSR page in the GCC is changing, and this change is for good."
