The Shoe Box Appeal is part of Radisson SAS's annual Responsible Business CSR initiative.
'We have just met our Phase 1 target of 2,500 shoe boxes. The community effort has been fabulous and is set to touch lives of construction workers in UAE. These guys are braving extreme weather conditions, as well as having to manage numerous lifestyle issues that are rather unique to them,'
said Farida Parekh, Marketing & Communications Manager of Radisson SAS Dubai Media City.
TECOM Investments has mobilized 55 Shoe Box collection and donation points throughout the various zones of Internet City, Media City and Knowledge Village.
More than 3,500 partner companies are based in these three free zones, giving the Shoe Box Appeal access to more than 30,000 people.
'There are in excess of 500,000 construction workers currently employed within the UAE construction sector and although we cannot touch then all, we want to do our best for some,' said Elle Trow, of the Roger and Elle duo at Helping Hands.
Ms Parekh explained that while each donation may seem small, the message delivered is great: 'We know that these workers so appreciate such gestures. A typical shoe box contains useful, daily staples with a value of around Dhs150. This is a little that means a lot!
'In our first phase, the Shoe Box Appeal looks set to deliver 2,500 boxes at the end of September, the last working day before Eid and we have already started to make plans for a Phase 2.'
The Shoe Box Appeal by DMC's flagship hotel is in conjunction with Helping Hands, a UAE-based charitable organisation working with industrial workers, and TECOM Investments, a member of Dubai Holding and leading developer of knowledge-based business clusters.
Other supporters of campaign include Union Paper Mills, Gulf News Broadcasting Corporation and Strategic Solutions.
