Commenting on the new tie-up, M. Kamarajan, General Manager, ETA Consultancy, said:
"We have been delivering health and safety training programmes to our employees in various divisions of the ETA Ascon Star Group. We realised that training provided to our employees can be offered to other organisations which do not have separate health and safety departments. As we were on the look out for an international affiliation to add to our training programmes, our obvious choice was ConstructionSkills, based in the UK."
"The fact that ConstructionSkills has certified our facilities and the technical capabilities of our training centres, clearly demonstrates that we are capable of providing internationally recognised training programmes for the benefit of the construction industry and clients," Kamarajan added.
Michael Dwyer, Head of Business Development, ConstructionSkills, said, "The construction industry is the biggest contributor to occupational deaths worldwide. The high volume of construction activities in the UAE and other GCC countries pose many challenges. Managing health and safety is a major task, considering the volume of workers coming to the Gulf from different parts of the world. The levels of awareness and training vary form country to country and when the nationals of these countries come to the region, managing the wide-ranging differential workforce is a challenge for site managers and safety officers. Only professional training agencies offering the highest industry standards can train the safety officers and engineers to meet this challenge."
"Qualified and highly competent trainers at ETA consultancy, is an excellent example of an organisation helping the construction sector in the UAE to maintain safety standards of the highest level," Mr. Dwyer added.
ETA Consultancy's tie-up with ConstructionSkills will now enable construction companies in the UAE and the region to access international health and safety training and improve the awareness and knowledge of all construction related staff, which can be verified through taking the "IHSA" test. After passing the assessment test successfully, the employee will be issued an identity card that is chipped to contain the holder's photograph and details of his successful completion of the test and any other data required by the employer. The IHSA ID card can then be used by employers to prove that their employees have received health and safety awareness training and passed the test.
ETA Consultancy delivers many internationally recognised training courses in the UAE as well as in the wider GCC region. Apart from the link with ConstructionSkills, ETA Consultancy currently offers training programmes for Food Safety, the National Examination Body in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Scaffolding Training Institute USA and others.
ETA Consultancy opened the doors of their new training facility in February 2008. In June 2008, the company began delivering its fist health and safety management training programmes in the oil and gas sector through a prestigious client.
