Mr. Abdul Aziz Malik CEO of Dubai Taxi Agency confirmed that the Agency had received 10 state-of-the-art Toyota Camry hybrid sedans on 16 July 2008 in a ceremony at the flagship Toyota showroom at Dubai Festival City.

The 10 vehicles began trials mid of August.

"The retrofitting, calibration of fare meters, and other internal tests were carried out to prepare for the passenger trials. The Dubai Taxi Agency engineers are pleased with the initial results so far and anticipated that the public would receive the Camry hybrid sedans as a welcome addition to the taxi fleet, and we welcome any hybrid vehicle suppliers to collaborate with us for taxi trials." said Malik.

"We are glad that Al Futtaim Motors is so supportive of the efforts exerted by RTA to reduce the pollution and contribute to create a healthier environment. The 10 Camry hybrid sedans would provide a good platform for the public to appreciate the safety and performance of hybrid vehicles. With reduced emissions, we can take a step closer to prevent our air from being polluted and hence ensure a future that is safer for the whole society," he added.

Tony Barlow Senior General Manager of Sales at AFM said: "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with the RTA on the very important mission of protecting our environment for the future. We have the full support of the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan for the trial of these technologically advanced vehicles, and we anticipate a successful outcome."

The initial summer trial will clearly be critical in assessing the technical and operational capabilities of hybrid vehicles.
