"We are seeing repeated demand from online video publishers in the Middle East for a solution that will enable them to manage an online video library," said Rida Al Barazi, the Managing Director of SpinBits.
"We understand this demand as we now see that broadband users are outnumbering the dial-up users in the Middle East, especially in the UAE, which has the highest internet penetration in the region, with more than 904.000 subscribers in 2007. We believe Slicejar will help regional companies revolutionize the way they conduct their communications, commerce and entertainment."
In 2007, according to Comscore, more than 10 billion videos were viewed online in the US alone, with 72.8% of the Internet audience having viewed them more than once. Unsurprisingly, companies are now doing everything that they can to reach this audience. Research groups such as eMarketer are predicting that online video spending will shortly be in the billions, and by 2011, almost 10 percent of all online advertising money will be dedicated to video advertising.
According to Al Barazi, Slicejar is an innovative Web technology that enables website owners in the region to publish video content online. The difference between Slicejar and other online video publishing platforms such as YouTube is that, with Slicejar, content creators have much more control over many aspects of the technology than they would with YouTube.
He explains, "Using Slicejar, website owners can create custom Flash videos with their own themes and colors, and they can have their logo superimposed on all videos that are uploaded onto their website, whether the videos were uploaded by them or by their users. Additionally, Slicejar allows website owners to monetize their content by displaying video ads alongside their videos."
Spinbits, which has built Slicejar technology from the ground up, expects online videos and video ads to grow in popularity as people move from the TV screen to computer and mobile device screens. They add that this method of ad delivery holds promise because most people can choose to view the videos they want, which is a pleasant alternative to being inundated with TV ads over which users have no control.
Slicejar is one of many new services that demonstrate Spinbits's innovation, creativity and thought leadership in the delivery of the highest quality Web applications and consultancy for such. The company has recently launched its Web 2.0 Real Estate portal, restate.ae, which allows Real Estate companies to advertise their properties while simultaneously allowing end-users to find a place to rent or purchase one in a few simple steps. It has also lunched DreamSlice, a shared ownership vacation homes website in LA, California; Brideaz, an online idea sharing social netowrk in the UAE; and eyatro, an online medical network website in Ireland.
