Zain- Kuwait Chief Excecutive Officer (CEO), Barrak Al-Sabeeh, said:
"As of 12 a.m Friday, the company will start the process of updating its cutomer data base to accommodate the new digit."

He pointed out that this process will continue until 10 a.m.

He added, "This exercise will cause temporary disturbance to the company's traffic of data transfer and recharge transactions, it will temporarily disable calls to the Zain Customer Care Center (107) and it will entail closing down the company's 24/7 Airport Branch up to 10 a.m of that day.

Al-Sabeeh pointed out that during the first phase of the KNRP, both the 7 digit and 8 digit mobile numbers will be working simultaneously regardless if the extra 9 digit is added before the Zain mobile line.

Zain Kuwait's CEO extended apologies for any inconvenience because of the temporary service shutdown due to take place with the aim of updating the database.

He underlined that this update is a requirement to implement the new National Renumbering plan which will eventually include all telephone numbers in Kuwait including landlines.

He concluded by saying Zain will move on to the second and final phase which will restrict usage to only 8 digit numbers starting October 17.
