The CAGS delegation is being chaired by Dr. Mahmoud Talib Al Ali, Director of CAGS, along with Dr. Ghazi Omar Tadmouri, Assistant Director of CAGS, who will be presenting two scientific papers on the Centre's activities and its findings with regard to genetic disorders in Arab populations.
Dr. Ghazi Tadmouri commented:
"Arab populations, especially in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, exhibit remarkable diversity in terms of genetic disorders. This diversity accentuates at the clinical variability of each and every disease as well as its molecular level in terms of mutations and gene abnormalities."
"The study of these disorders offers a great chance to understand the functions of many genes, thus helping us learn how our genomes function in health and disease," he added.
The CAGS delegation will also make a presentation to the HUGO Council as an initiative to host the 14th HGM in Dubai in March 2010.
Dr. Mahmoud said that "the Human Genome Meeting is an internationally renowned conference with hundreds of prominent attendees and it would be a great achievement to host it next time in Dubai. Undoubtedly, this will give research efforts in Arab genomics a strong boost."
CAGS and SHAMS will also participate in the exhibition which accompanies the conference.
