Imran Malik is one of the finalists for the 22nd IPMA World Congress taking place in Rome during the 9 - 11 November 2008.

His accomplishments will be recognised at the Young Project Manager's award ceremony taking place on 7 November 2008.

"This nomination represents strong recognition of the value of the Masters Degree in Project Management.

Such achievements from UAE's new generation of qualified professionals indicate the growing sophistication and achievements of the economy," said Dr. Kasim Randeree, Programme Director, Master of Science in Project Management, Faculty of Business Studies, The British University in Dubai (BUiD).

Malik is one of the first project managers from the region to reach the final of this international competition - competing against delegates from 51 other countries - with his successful nomination reflecting the growing global interest in the projects being undertaken within the United Arab Emirates.

The IPMA is the world's oldest project management organisation, and the Young Project Manager Award is designed to recognise individuals who are making a difference to the profession of project management.

Project managers from around the world apply for this award, but only three are selected and invited to the annual IPMA World Congress.

Malik is an employee of telecommunications giant Du, and gained the nomination for successfully training 200 senior project managers across several industries in addition to his work on a variety of high-end technical and quality management projects.

"This nomination is an acknowledgement of my management and training experience and my professional execution of numerous projects during the last 20 months. It would not have been possible without the skills I acquired while taking the MSc programme at BUiD," said Malik.

In addition to praising his professional contribution, judges commended Malik's activities while he was at BUiD. In 2006, he was the first student from BUiD to speak at an international conference hosted by the University of Birmingham, UK.

"The achievements of our students and graduates alike are a glowing reflection of both their own efforts and of the positive influence of the University.

BUiD will continue to strive for the highest possible standards of achievement and success in international competitions like the Young Project Manager Award," said Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abdullah M. Alshamsi, British University in Dubai.
