World's first F1 night race kicks off tomorrow

The inaugural 2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix flags off this weekend, with an estimated 40,000 racing fans from around the world making their way to Singapore to experience one of the hottest sporting events of the year.

The three-day race will run from 26-28 of September, with an exciting finale expected on Sunday.

The first 2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix race will host twenty drivers from 10 teams, who will complete 61 laps around the 5.067-kilometre street circuit in the heart of downtown Singapore - all lit up by 1,500 lighting projectors.

"The F1 night race is not just a historical event but also positions Singapore as a world-class destination with unique lifestyle experiences,"


said Jason Ong, Area Director for Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.

The F1 Grand Prix is the world's most watched annual sporting event and strong interest is expected from racing enthusiasts across the Middle East.

To highlight the keen international interest in the race, over 40% of the 105,000 race passes have been purchased by overseas visitors.

Taking place alongside the F1 race is the Singapore GP Season, which runs from 20 September to 5 October, featuring a wide range of top notch lifestyle events offering something for the wide range of travelers arriving in Singapore during this period, reinforcing Singapore's reputation as a truly first-class lifestyle destination.
