Her Excellency Dr. Sharifa Bint Khalfan Al-Yehiaia, the Minister of Social Affairs received a cheque of the amount during her meeting with Dr. Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Wohaibi, the Chief Executive Officer of Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel).

The amount shall be distributed to 22 philanthropic centers and charitable organizations throughout the Sultanate's governorates, regions and wilayats (provinces).

Her Excellency Dr. Sharifa Bint Khalfan Al-Yehiaia expressed appreciation to this gesture from Omantel, saying that this donation reflects the national and social responsibility of the Omani private sector, which is fully aware of its role in supporting social development programmes and those needy segments in our society.

Her Excellency pointed out that Oman Telecommunications Company was right when it decided to support philanthropic centers in order to satisfy the needs of individuals with special needs who live in all the wilayats (provinces) of the Sultanate. She said that the company has taken the geographical location of these centers into account in order to strike balance in support of the centers.

Dr. Al-Yehiaia said that such initiatives would encourage some companies and enterprises in the Sultanate to make similar contributions in this important aspect.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Omantel Dr. Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Wohaibi said that donation to charitable organizations and philanthropic centers and some other professional voluntary societies including National Association for Cancer, Child Welfare and Al-Noor Association for the Blind, is part of the Omantel's social responsibility. It would enable these centers to serve the society and contribute in this noble social and humanitarian aspect. It is the company's duty towards the society. Dr. Al-Wohaibi said, "We are inspired in this respect by the directives of His Majesty the Sultan."

He said that Oman Telecommunications Company is an integral part of the society and has certain responsibilities in this aspect. The company endeavors to embark on some projects that are part of its social responsibility, sustainable development and community support. It contributes through various fields such as education, training and self-employment of citizens as well as direct support of centers and societies that look after people with special needs and the like.

Dr. Al-Wohaibi added:
"Allocating an amount of OR100000 for social philanthropic centers and several professional societies and associations stems from the company's awareness of the importance of these centers and the services they provide to individuals with special needs in all the wilayats (provinces) of the Sultanate."

The company realized that it is important to pay more attention to these centers in order to enable them to undertake their role in serving special segments in the society, especially as these centers are scattered throughout the Sultanate, which expand the utility of the donation, he added.

He added that the company and the Ministry of Social Development have studied the needs of philanthropic centers. The study showed that they need the equipment and means that help them overcome all types of disability. He pointed out that these centers have around 2164 mental, audio, mobile, visual and other disability cases. This makes it incumbent upon us to try to lessen the severity of such disabilities and help these segments practice their life as normal as possible.

Dr. Al-Wohaibi added that Oman Telecommunications Company would pay more attention to these segments in the future.
