Stores encroaching on pavements face fines
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, September 28 - 2008 at 09:41
The director of the public health department in Al Ain, UAE, has said coffee shops and other commercial establishments that encroach on streets and pavements without authorisation will attract fines ranging from Dhs200 to Dhs2,000 ($544) depending on the type of offence, reported Khaleej Times. Local residents have complained that some coffee shops have become a nuisance for tenants of buildings and passersby in some areas as these shops lay tables and chairs on road pavements and in front of the establishments. They have also complained that bachelors crowd these shops everyday to watch television and play cards, creating a lot of noise.
