- PRESS RELEASE
Mena Telecom, an investment subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain), unveiled a new disaster recovery site (DRS) in Manama to facilitate continuous business operations in the event of any unforeseen circumstances; as it prepares to launch its new nationwide network for its WiMAX range of products and services.
The site is fully functional and capable of taking on the full network load immediately if required. Multiple power sources will also ensure both the core site and DRS are unaffected by possible power outages. In addition to running as an independent back-up site, the DRS is also capable of working simultaneously in order to support the main site should the need ever arise.
Mr. Al Khayyat commented on the opening, "Over the past one year we have successfully built a world-class 802.16e WiMAX infrastructure spanning the entire Kingdom and in accordance with our promise of quality and reliability, we have effectively built two fully-functional network cores to ensure that our customers will remain connected all the time."
In the event that Mena Telecom has to reroute processing to the DRS, "The process will go by virtually unnoticed - and the network will continue running at peak performance as if nothing happened," continues Mr. Al Khayyat.
Mr. Jawahery commented, "Mena Telecom is committed to becoming one of the market leaders in the telecom sector in the Kingdom. With its network infrastructure in place, four active retail branches and more on the way, Mena Telecom is looking forward to providing Bahrain with the best telecommunications services possible, while giving customers everywhere easy and convenient access to all the products and services it offers."
Mena Telecom has recently unveiled one of the first end-to-end 802.16e WiMAX operation centers in the world. The final stages of the nation-wide rollout are almost complete with the disaster recovery site in place and a multitude of active user accounts performing rigorous testing 24hrs a day.
Bahrain has made its mark on the world map by being the first country in the Middle East to deploy a nation-wide 802.16e WiMAX network. This solution, in addition to many other benefits, also supports full mobility; users will be able to experience true broadband speeds while on the move, without getting disconnected. The mobility option is ready to be activated once regulations permit."
