Qatargas receives its latest LNG carrier
- Qatar: Tuesday, September 30 - 2008 at 12:44
- PRESS RELEASE
Today, the first of the world's largest Q-Max LNG carriers was delivered to Qatargas Operating Company Limited and Nakilat at a special ceremony held at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard on Geoje Island.
Mr. Muhammad Ghannam, Nakilat's Managing Director said; "'MOZAH' is our flagship, the very first Q-Max ever built and the largest and most advanced LNG carrier in the world. The delivery of 'MOZAH' is a key milestone for Nalikat as it is the first of our 14 Q-Max ships and also the first of our twenty-five wholly owned LNG carriers in our fleet of 54 vessels which are being built in the Korean shipyards to service Qatar's massive LNG expansion projects.
"MOZAH" will be used to ship LNG produced by Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited (II), known as Qatargas 2, to customers in Europe.
The Q-Flex and the even larger Q-Max are a new generation of LNG mega-ships. The Q-Max has 80 percent more capacity than conventional LNG carriers with about 40 percent lower energy requirements due to the economies of scale created by their size and the efficiency of the engines. Q-Max LNG carriers are unique and purpose built for Nakilat and will be on long-term charter to Qatargas.
Qatargas 2 shareholders are Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil Qatargas II Limited and Total E&P Qatargas II Holdings LTD.
