Carrefour, operated by Majid Al Futtaim, will be running a special 10-day promotion starting on 5th October, when shoppers will be able to purchase the popular reusable bags.

The reusable bags, which Carrefour sees as an eco-friendly option to using the non-biodegradable plastic bag, can be bought at checkout counters, and if they become damaged they can be replaced at any Carrefour outlet free of charge.

Carrefour first introduced an environmental campaign in 2007 and since that time it has sold more than 800,000 reusable bags in the UAE alone aims to reduce the numbers of plastic bags being used by the end of the year.

Henri Changeux, Senior Vice President, Carrefour, said:
"Conserving the ecological balance by reducing the use of plastic bags is just one of the many steps that we have taken at Carrefour to help the environment. The contribution signifies the commitment our company has towards its consumers and their surroundings and we believe in taking such environment friendly steps at all our outlets."

Carrefour's reusable bag campaign is actively supported by Emirates Diving Association and UAE's Ministry of Environment.
