The project, the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates, has been endorsed by the Emirates Arthritis Foundation and is supported by Festival Centre and Mega Sports, a subsidiary of Al Abbas Group and sole distributor of Head Fitness Equipment.
The mechanics of the program include the set up of a special 'Steps for Healthier Bones' zone at the Festival Centre, Dubai Festival City where enthusiasts will participate by walking on treadmills, and will have the number of steps counted.
Bone Health Week is an initiative by DBAJ, the primary sponsor of EAF, and was conceptualized in order to encourage and attract further endowments.
"Musculoskeletal ailments are a serious concern which is why we thought about this project to help raise awareness on the subject. Educating the public about bone health and safety, as well as leading healthier lifestyles, will help curb the rising incidence of bone-related injuries and ailments,"
said Suzanne Al Houby, Vice-president Dubai Bone and Joint Centre.
Al Houby said the public is welcome to come to the Steps to Healthier Bones area, located at the 2nd level, taking the maximum number of steps on a treadmill. "The objective of this activity is to raise the awareness on the importance of exercising and leading a healthier lifestyle," she added.
Dubai Bone and Joint Center (DBAJ) is the first and only center for musculoskeletal treatment and research in the Middle East, offering patients world-class specialists and facilities to improve their quality of life and to have a chance to live a pain free life.
DBAJ addresses various conditions ranging from children and adult spinal conditions, pelvic and acetabular fractures, reconstructive surgery, and rheumatology. It also offers total joint arthroplasty, revision of total joint arthroplasty, limb lengthening and limb deformity correction, infective non-union surgery, foot deformities, neuromuscular disorders, and sports medicine.
