ACCPAC supports Linux @ Jordan's Open Software Solutions conference with new launch
- Jordan: Saturday, December 21 - 2002 at 11:26
- PRESS RELEASE
The opening day of Jordan's Open Software Solutions two days conference saw the launch of ACCPAC Small Business Edition 5.0 for Linux, a new edition of ACCPAC's accounting application to support deployment on both Linux servers and Linux desktops in the Middle East.
"We expect Linux to gain acceptance within the small and medium size business community, offering the market a high-performance environment for business applications at a low cost," said ACCPAC general manager, Marc Van der Ven.
"Extending ACCPAC Linux support to the desktop provides a great opportunity for me to offer my clients proven technology with reduced costs," said Hatem Salah, operations manager for UBA, an ACCPAC Solution Provider in Jordan. "Users can now go fully to Linux, or migrate over time through a mixed Linux and Microsoft Windows environment. That's the kind of flexibility that comes from smart product design and only ACCPAC provides it."
Linux use at the desktop is growing rapidly, according to IDC (Source: IDC Bulletin - Worldwide Linux Operating Environment Forecast, 2002-2006: Client Shipments Pick Up Pace). IDC cites growth in use of the Linux client in 2001 at 107%, more than four times the growth of the previous year. IDC further projects continued growth of the Linux client at a compounded annual rate of 30.1% through 2006.
ACCPAC Advantage Series is an advanced, Web-based accounting solution built on a world-class, object-oriented, multi-tiered architecture that enables ACCPAC to quickly integrate new market- technologies. Advantage Series is highly customizable, designed to scale as a company grows, and is the foundation of a completely integrated set of end-to-end business management applications including CRM, e-commerce, human resources and warehouse management.
The growing use of Linux on the desktop, coupled with the availability of ACCPAC accounting applications, provides mid-market clients with a non-Microsoft choice and the potential for significantly reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) in managing their accounting systems.
Van der Ven ends: "Business application systems running on open software platforms is exactly what the small to medium businesses in the region need to overcome their budget constraints. The entire range of our software applications is built around these core features."
