- PRESS RELEASE
The Avenues, the iconic shopping destination developed by Mabanee in Kuwait, will host the world's largest and most prestigious photo exhibition from the 4th to 18th of October 2008, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Sheikha Al Abdullah El Sabah - Honorary Chairperson - Kuwait Disabled Sports Club.
The Avenues will host the exhibition in the exhibition in its newly opened extension of the mall, thus offering maximum visibility for the spectacular collection of photos and extending an opportunity for as many visitors as possible to see the rare pictures.
"The Avenues is proud to host the World Press Photo Exhibition at our premises as it's the biggest event in photo journalism. It gives mall visitors an opportunity to see the state of the world around them as seen through the camera and understand the power of images," said Steve Bunce, Mall Director of The Avenues.
"News photos are one of the most powerful tools of journalism and it is often said that a picture can save a thousand words. The exhibition will hence also encourage people to look at photography as a creative pursuit and an effective medium of communication, more than a hobby or pastime," added Bunce.
The exhibition is part of a World Press Photo Contest open to all professional news photographers across the globe and chiefly aimed to showcase the latest trends and developments in photo journalism. The contest is judged by a 13-member panel comprising eminent picture editors, photographers and news agency representatives from different countries.
The winning entries have been put into a traveling exhibition, which is covering 90 countries, attracting millions of viewers.
