Accomodation, Security and Local Transportation Committees of Dubai 2003 meet
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, December 21 - 2002 at 15:17
- PRESS RELEASE
Representatives of the Accommodation, Security and Local Transportation Committees of Dubai 2003 have met to discuss a number of joint issues as preparations for the 58th Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and IMF continue.
Members discussed details of the plans and preparations underway to manage the accommodation of officials and delegates and the required transportation routes between hotels and the meeting venues and the additional security and safety of individuals and groups attending and participating in the meetings.
Mr. Ahmed Al Banna said: "The preparations for these meetings were discussed between the three committees to ensure the creation of a coordinated plan for our ongoing preparations with regard to accommodation, security and ensuring the most effective flow of transportation during the meetings.
"The meeting allowed us all to become familiar with the transport routes for officials and for buses that will be taking many participants between their hotels, meeting venues and Dubai International Airport."
He added that their planning was important to ensure Dubai was ready to handle the traffic and transportation requirements for the biggest event the city has ever seen with an anticipated 16,000 to 18,000 delegates, media, officials and business people expected in Dubai in September 2003.
"This process needs a lot of careful planned organization in order to ensure both the safety and security of everyone involved with this prestigious event," said Mr. Al Banna.
The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. Dubai and the UAE were selected because of its highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
