RTA awards a contract for internal roads at Nad El Sheba 2

In a session chaired by H.E. Matter Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), the Board of Directors of the RTA, awarding a contract for constructing internal roads at Nad El Sheba 2 area at a cost of Dhs86m.

The project, which has been awarded to Al Wasit Co., entails construction of two-way roads extending 5 km, a 14 km road, 5 circular intersections, a 2 km lane and a 5 km bicycle track.

"Upgrading and improving roads and related facilities in the emirate stems out of RTA attention to develop roads & transport network. It is part of the drive to realize RTA vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all, and meet the requirements of demographic growth and urban expansion in the emirate. Roads network is a key ingredient of basic infrastructure required to bolster economic, industrial and service development in various countries. In fact roads development is a key indicator of development in the economic, industrial and service sector in any country in view of the huge services rendered in facilitating the movement of individuals and commodities.

"RTA is currently undertaking construction of internal roads networks spanning a number of areas in the emirate at an aggregate cost of one billion dirham and some of these projects have already entered their final stages. RTA has completed construction of roads and pavements at Jumeirah 2 at a cost of Dhs75m and the project included 3 new internal roads, public parking, transforming Aroobah Road into a two-way road and pedestrian crossings. It also included construction of pavements, rainwater drainage, irrigation lines, lighting poles and traffic signals at the intersection of Aroobah Road with Al Wasl Road.

"Works have also been completed in leveling and constructing roads at Al Barsha South area. The project, which costs Dhs110m, included leveling of about 553 hectares of land and constructing roads extending 58km. It included construction of 4 light signal-controlled intersections (three of which are placed on the existing roads which are being widened as part of this project), lighting works, overhead & ground traffic signage, and conduits for prospective future roads.

"RTA has also completed construction of roads at Al Qusais area at a cost of around Dhs43m. The Project comprises construction of new roads, 6 roundabouts, a car parking, improvement of some of the existing roads & intersections and road lighting network in various areas of Al Qusais 1 and Al Qusais 2.

"Works in constructing roads at Muhaisnah 3 and Muhaisnah 4 have reached concluding stages, where completion rate has hit 95%. The project, which has a cost tag of around Dhs74m, includes construction of 17 km internal roads and car park. The project also includes transforming Halab Road into a two-way road as well as lighting works and other services.

"Completion rate in Suffouh Road improvement projects reached 80% and the project comprises road improvements and a link up with R3 Bridge crossing the Canal of Dubai Marina. It also links with the R5 Bridge linking Jumeirah Beach Residence with Dubai Marina. Completion rate in road projects at Muhaisna 1 and Mizher 1, which cost about Dhs160m, has reached 77%. The Project entails constructing and maintaining secondary arterial roads extending 7 km and collector roads extending 8 km, local roads extending 46 km in addition to roadside parking and rehabilitation of some roads.

"Completion rate in road improvement projects at Oud Mateena 2, at a cost of Dhs50m, reached 78%. The Project comprises construction of 3.5 km internal roads and upgrading of Amman & Khartoum roads through adding new lanes extending 5 km to uplift the intake of these two vital roads. Khartoum Road is being widened to 4 lanes in each direction and Amman Road leading to Oud Mateena is being widened to 2 lanes in each direction.

"Recently RTA awarded a contract for landscaping and upgrading Al Nahdeh 2 area at a cost of Dhs118m and the completion rate has reached 30%. The Project includes construction of 5 km new collector roads, 19 km of local roads, car parking for 25 vehicles and 7 new roundabouts in the area. It also includes light signal-controlled intersection at Amman Road, linking Al Nahdah 1 and Al Nahdah 2, in addition to infrastructure works such as water, electricity and telecommunication lines, and networks of rainwater drainage, sewage and road lighting" said the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
