Mr. Abdulmajid Al Khaja, CEO of Rail Agency in RTA said,
"With over 80% of the Dubai Metro project above ground, the project is quickly becoming a major feature on the Dubai landscape. The Red Line - Phase 1 of the project - comprises 25 elevated stations, 4 underground stations, 2 depots, 2 car parks, 5km of tunnel, 44km of viaduct, and 3km of at grade section."
The Dubai Metro Red Line is one of the largest single construction contracts in the world today and almost 78% of the construction is completed.
We are pleased to achieve significant milestones on the project according to the prescribed schedule bearing in mind that it is the first project of its kind in the region."
"The 20 train car sets that have arrived in Dubai for the Metro are currently housed at Jebel Ali Depot. A further 24 trains will arrive periodically over the next 12 months. The energization of the Test Track was achieved on 1st August 2008 as planned. The Test Track comprises 11km of the permanent railway line between Ibn Battuta Station and Jebel Ali Depot. Other major progress includes the current status of the works at the depots like the Jebel Ali Depot. The primary structure for all buildings at the Jebel Ali Depot is complete, all the tracks have now been laid, cladding installation is around 50% complete", he added.
