Termed as the 'Motivated Volunteer Empowerment Workshop', the first phase of the programme featured a number of specialized workshops on 'How to Make a Difference', 'Communication and Teamwork' and 'Setting Goals'.

It also included field visits to identify best ways to help different communities in the UAE.

The second phase of the programme will see participants applying their classroom learning into voluntary work on-ground.

The programme was conducted in partnership with Dubai Ladies Club, a member of Dubai Women's Establishment, and the Family International Community Services (FICS), a private, charitable organization committed to improving the quality of life for all members of the community.

Mona Bin Kili, General Manager, Dubai Ladies Club, said:

"The voluntary programme underscores Her Highness Sheikha Manal's keen interest to encourage women's active involvement in community issues. The initiative also gave participants an understanding of how team work is crucial for serving the country and ensuring the development of any society. The Family International Community Services (FICS) is considered one of the most prominent educational institutions in the field of volunteerism. Our partnership with the charity organization stems from our conviction to provide premium educational programmes to Emirati women and prepare them for more significant community roles in the future."

Julienne Dimon, Representative of FICS and Manager of the Manal Bint Mohammed Voluntary Programme, praised the enthusiasm demonstrated by the UAE national participants.

She said: "Their eagerness to learn more about the motivation behind volunteering and their proactive interest in employing their skills were truly impressive. We are confident each and every participant will go on to make a substantial difference to the community.

"The members of FICS consider it a privilege to be of service to people of the Arab world and have great respect and admiration for their rich culture and heritage. We actively endeavor to help bridge the cultural gaps in order to create a greater understanding and tolerance between all people."

Since 1990, FICS has been active in Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Pakistan, conducting several educational development programmes for children, youth, parents and teachers.

The UAE aims to mobilize the entire community in a spirit of volunteerism as a demonstration of its commitment to enhancing the quality of life among the less privileged members of the society.

Towards this purpose, Dubai has consistently rolled out several initiatives including workshops as its call for raising awareness on the significance of voluntary work.
