- PRESS RELEASE
India, the new Himalayas of the art market? After having observed the rise in value of Indian artists, this is the question that all observers of the art market are asking themselves.
Several galleries at artparis-AbuDhabi are showing Indian artists. Specialized in contemporary Indian art, 1 x 1 Art Gallery (Dubai) presents Shibu Natesan whose prices reached the equivalent of $179,480 during an auction at Christie's in Hong Kong in May, 2008.
Pundole Art Gallery of Mumbai is showing Maqbul Fida Husain, the artist who electrified recent sales at Christie's and at Sotheby's. At Christie's in New York in March, 2008, one of his canvases found a buyer for $1,400,000.
Yet other discoveries are to be found at the stand of Caprice Horn (Germany) who will notably be showing photographs of Sunil Gupta and at Matthieu Foss, who has come from India to show photos by Baba Anand.
... and to be really in the know, in the framework of the artparis-AbuDhabi Educational Program, a conference has been organized by Canvas Magazine titled, "Contemporary and Modern Art on the Subcontinent" which will take place on Tuesday, November 18th from 9.30am - 1.00 pm.
