Building Materials Trading & Manufacturing Business Group elects representative committee

More than 250 delegates representing Dubai's building materials trading and manufacturing sector, met yesterday at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to elect a representative committee.

11 representatives were chosen by secret ballot from nominations submitted by Building Materials Trading & Manufacturing members of DCCI over the last two months, while a twelfth member was selected by a show of hands due to a tie in number of votes.

Mr Ahmed Al Banna, Assistant Director General for Studies and International Affairs at DCCI, chaired yesterday's meeting, which was attended by more than 250 business group members.

"This initiative is designed to improve our partnership with business in Dubai and provide business group members with the right platform to voice out their concerns and discuss issues of relevance," Mr. Al Bana said.

He added: "DCCI will provide the elected committee will all the support and assistance that they may need."

Elected to sit on the executive panel of the Building Materials Trading & Manufacturing Business Group are: Farid Mohamed Ahmed, Director General for Sales & Marketing for Dubal Cable Company, Anil Bhardwaj, Business Development Director of A.A. Al Moosa Enterprises, Mustafa Taher Ali, MD of Sell Force International, D. Dewan, MD of Glotra Trading LLC/ All Metals Engineering Ltd., Dr. Kasem Al Arouk, General Manager of Al Habtoor Marble Co., Shabbir Saifudoin Managing Director of Aliasger & Brothers, Ali Al Shirawi, Executive Director of Al Ghazal Iron Works Co. and Al Shirawi Trading Co., Shyam A. Bhatia, Managing Director of Alam Traders, Mahendra Patel, Group Managing Director of Geap International Group, Najib K. Sayegh, Managing Director of Gulf Resources, Pradeep Laljani, Managing Director of Consolidated Electrical Factors; and Lovraj Talwar, the Managing Director of Trade House Limited Co.

Committee member Ali Abdulla Al Shirawi, of Al Shirawi Group of Companies, said that he believed the newly elected committee would play a significant role in serving the interests of this economic sector as a whole.

Enhancing communication levels and collaterally providing plausible solutions to everyday issues and problems were among his priorities for the group.

A total of seven new Dubai-based business groups were set up in October and November. The new groups represent the foodstuffs trading sector, land transport sector, pharmaceuticals and health equipments trading, printing and publishing, food and beverages manufacturing, exhibitions and conventions, as well as building materials trading and manufacturing.

During phase two of the new business group programme, each group will reconvene at DCCI to elect a panel of between eight to 12 representatives.
