Advisory council meets to appoint judges for selection committee

The secretary General of Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Rashed Al Oraimi announced that the advisory committee of the award convened to appoint a group of distinguished regional and international cultural figures who will serve on the award's nine separate selection committees, one for each award category.

The selection committee members - three to five members per category - remain anonymous to maintain the independence and integrity of the selection process.

Each committee will review all nominated works and submit its selections to the Advisory Council which comprises; Dr Ali Al Noaimi, Dr. Radwan Al Sayyed, Mr. Waciny Laredj, Dr. Carmen Ruiz, Dr. Mohamed Kafoud, Mr. Abdulla Al Ghothami and finally Mr. Mohammad Al Murr.

The Advisory Council reviews and approves the panel's suggestions, which are then officially announced by the Higher Committee, presided over by Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, president of the Abu Dhabi Authority of Culture and Heritage

"The award received more than 500 works in the various categories for the 2009 session, and a comprehensive study will be soon released demonstrating after the closing of the nominations final day October 15" said Rashid Al Oraimi.

The winners will be announced a few weeks ahead of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, culminating in a prestigious tribute ceremony that takes place during the Fair.
