Mobily achieved this feat for its customers through one of the largest roaming agreements ever, which covers more than 100 GSM operators worldwide.
The list of countries in this new service includes the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, France, Switzerland, Japan, Finland, Denmark and Norway, to name a few.
The new service makes it possible for Mobily subscribers to receive all local and international voice calls and SMS messages for free through all of the operating networks in 51 countries, but in the other five Arab countries, a specific operator has to be selected. This brings the total to 56 counties.
These agreements are some of the largest ever, both regionally and globally, since they are not confined to sister networks in the UAE and Egypt. In practical terms, they allow Mobily's subscribers complete and total freedom to hop from one network to another free of charge, as well as choosing which networks they would like to use.
In an interview with the press last month, Chief Executive Officer Khalid Al Kaf had promised great surprises to come from the company that will reinforce its lead in unprecedented products, services and rates.
Mobily had dropped its rates by as much as 60% for local calls to STC land and mobile networks and Zain.
The company had also dropped its rates by the same percentage on international calls.
Moreover, the reductions encompass all of Mobily's prepaid and post-paid subscribers.
Mobily customers can receive calls for free in 56 countries
Customers of Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) can now receive all their local and international calls for free in 56 countries and with more than 100 operators.
