Underlining the UAE Government Strategy towards promoting international best practices, the 18-month Future Leaders programme has selected 30 participants from among 100 shortlisted employees.

Titled 'The Authentic Government Leader - Module 1', and organised in cooperation with Ashridge Business School, the first round of the programme focuses on three key areas of self management, learning and development, personal goal setting and effective management of time and working with others.

The Future Leaders programme tackles an array of important topics, varying from techniques of adapting with fast pace changes in the work environment to enhancing core institutional competencies such as public financial management, talent management, information technology management, project management and governmental excellence.

His Excellency Mohammad AlGergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said:
"The UAE Government is extremely keen to introduce a second generation of aspiring leaders, providing them with all necessary tools and expertise to enhance their leadership qualities. The trend to qualify new leadership cadres reflects the UAE Government's far-reaching strategy and interprets its vision in promoting government performance across the board."

AlGergawi urged participants at the Future Leaders programme to optimize their training by applying its components on the ground to create inspiring work environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

Lasting 32 days of training spread through an 18-month period, the Future Leaders programme will include workshops, job development assignment, case study scenarios, networking events, field visits, conferences and seminars in the UAE and overseas.

The programme will also assign mentors/coaches to the participants to promote effective hands-on knowledge transfer to the trainees.

The Future Leaders programme focuses on building strategic thinking and planning competencies, developing clear and effective visions, building and empowering work teams, prioritizing as well as identifying challenges and effective solutions.

The other initiative under the multi-pronged 'UAE Government Leaders Programme' is the 18-month Executive Leaders Programme that was launched last April, drawing 30 Executive Directors and Directors at UAE ministries and Federal authorities.

The third component, featuring the year-long Strategic Leaders Programme, targeting Directors General for UAE ministries and Federal authorities.
