Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Senior Vice President of DHCC, said "We are really excited with the new accreditation. All of our faculty and staff within BUIDRE worked very hard to put together the postgraduate programs. I am extremely pleased that we will be the leading institute in obtaining accreditations for all our dental programs."
BUIDRE is the first and only private dental educational institute in the GCC to have a full spectrum of academic programs in dental specialties accredited by the authorities.
For the fifteen places granted in the classes that commenced in July 2008, there were over 100 applicants with a significant waiting list of outstanding applicants.
Professor Thomas Kilgore, Associate Dean in the office of Advanced Education and International Programs at Boston University and Chief Academic Officer of the Institute in Dubai, said:
"Our aim is to set new standards in dental research, education and specialized dental care. This accreditation confirms our commitment to provide quality education and contribute to the growth and development of higher education in UAE."
BUIDRE and The Boston University Dental Health Center Dubai will eventually be serviced by a dental director and 20 full-time faculty members and academic specialists. It is expected that the Institute will transition to 50 students with about 20 graduates per year.
The Boston University Dental Health Center Dubai is a state-of-the-art facility opened in March 2008; offering comprehensive care to patients through a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. When fully operational, the center will comprise 50 chairs sharing some 30,000 square feet of space within the institute.
From their current temporary premises, BUIDRE and the center will move to the Boston University building at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center, which is due for completion in 2011.
