Yahsat is the UAE's first nationally-owned satellite operator and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mubadala.
Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, COO of Mubadala and Chairman of Yahsat, said:
"We hope to play a key role in the economic development of the nations we cover by connecting rural and urban communities and creating informed societies."
"Yahsat's cost-effective satellite broadband service "YahClick" is an unprecedented step in the right direction. YahClick will fast track the deployment of broadband service and bring the internet to millions of underserved and unserved people and organizations at costs comparable to terrestrial services," said Jassem Al Zaabi, CEO of Yahsat.
The state-of-the-art satellite technology will enable Yahsat to deliver a highly reliable broadband internet service to meet the growing needs of the region. Due to the highly flexible system design YahClick broadband service will be able to cater to multiple user segments ranging from basic internet access for a home user to high speed service plans for the corporate users.
Shortly after the launch of the satellite the service will be available through service partners throughout the coverage area. Service partners will bundle hardware and software services, offering packages tailor-made for specific markets and user segments.
Yahsat 1B will deliver internet connectivity through its Ka-band multi-spot beams, with reusable frequencies to maximize spectrum efficiency. The multi spot-beam technology means greater efficiency on the ground, which enables use of a smaller antenna size with a low power amplifier.
Yahsat will launch "YahClick" and start the process of appointing Service Partners during Gitex at Zabeel hall Z - N15.
