Dubai awards tram system contract

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has awarded a contract for the Al Sofouh Tram project to a consortium comprising Alstom and Besix. The contract involves the designing and building of the first 9.5km phase of Al Sufouh Tram, which is expected to become the world's first tram with fully enclosed air-conditioned stations. Abdul Majid Al Khaja, CEO of the RTA Rail Agency, said the Dhs3.18bn ($866m) contract is for designing and constructing 13 stations and a depot.
