According to Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaffine, director of the department, the new service titled "Takamul" is an electronic service that offers an interactive, comprehensive and high quality map consisting of geographic features and attributes for the Emirate of Dubai.

"One of the key features of this service is that it adds a significant value to the existing electronic services and desktop applications. The service can be incorporated within any eService or any application without the need for prior knowledge of GIS application programming,"

said Mr. Al Zaffine.

Explaining the significance of the e-map, he noted that it can be integrated to any electronic services or desktop applications.

"This service is easy-to-use, and contains a set of tools that are used to read the map easily. It can be combined or plugged to any sites or program and various sites can be added to the map. In addition, it can be customized as per the requirements of the owners by creating layers and adding data," he said.

Al Zaffine noted that the new service also provides user-friendly printing tools and set of templates which can be customized.

Commenting on the elements of the takamul service, he said Map Tools would enable users to navigate the map viewer through a range of clickable icons located on the top pane. Most of the icons will display features directly on the map viewer. Tools displayed on the Map Tool bar on a user's interface will depend on User Access rights. However, some basic tools will be available to all users.

He said Takamul service would be provided to both the public and private sectors establishments based on request. Giving an example of one of the successful Takamul users, he said Dubai World Central (DWC), which is one of the most strategically important commercial infrastructure developments ever launched in the region, has been provided with an e-map. The DWC e-map has been developed through the strategic partnership between DWC and GIS Department in the line with the vision of eliminating any expected redundancy of recourses within Dubai government departments and targeting providing an efficient updated DWC geographic data to all users and for different purposes

Other users of the service include the Road Fees and Parking Department at the Roads and Transport Authority, which uses eMap to locate parking meters and render its status within its control room customized application. The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department uses eMap service to enable the public to identify the Qibla direction online. The Properties Department at Dubai Municipality uses this eMap service to show location of assets available for rents.
