Greener Data Centers taking priority in UAE, says Fujitsu Siemens

  • PRESS RELEASE

More energy-efficient or 'green' data centers are assuming a vastly increased priority on the 'to do' lists of CIOs and technology decision-makers in the UAE, according to Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

While the effort is being complicated by a lack of standards and information sharing, Fujitsu Siemens Computers presented solutions which cut through the maze, at a Dynamic Data Centre Forum for its customers at The Monarch, on October 19.

Fujitsu Siemens Computer and a number of its partners ISIT and Visionaire, discussed the merits and suitability of more sustainable, environmentally-friendly IT systems for the Middle East region.

"In order to drive more 'green IT' adoption, we as vendors are creating a situation where saying 'yes' to environmentally-friendly solutions is an easy decision for customers in the Middle East, said Stephane Rejasse, Managing Director for the Middle East, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "As companies face difficulties in managing the actual real estate space, power, and air conditioning demands generated by major data centers, it is becoming possible to build data centers that are both energy-efficient and responsive to regional business needs,"

"The daily and weekly power and air conditioning consumption of a regional bank or telecoms operator's data center can be greater than that of the monthly power demands for thousands of homes, according to our estimates. By using strategies such as virtualization or resource pooling plus automating more processes, our customers can make 'green' choices that help their businesses by reducing costs as well," added Rejasse.

During the full-day seminar experts from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and its customers shared their own insight on topics ranging from their transition to a more environmentally-sound computing system and Fujistsu Siemens Computers Bladeframe provide the edge in managing physical and virtual servers. Other topics included Utility and Cloud Computing models, Green storage, and Green IT vision for 2010.

"While server consolidation is being widely adopted and energy savings witnessed, there continues to be a gap in the enterprise data center storage. And storage is taking up a lot of power," said Mahesh Vaidya, CEO, ISIT. "While deploying cheap storage is appealing at the start because it is so easy to do, it will bite back via poor management capabilities and energy drain in the long run. We are supporting Fujitsu Siemens Computers in its drive towards creating a 'greener' IT by providing storage solutions that are not only energy efficient, but also help reduce operation costs."

Aseem Gupta, CEO and Chief Visionary, Visionaire explains:
"We have a clear vision of how organizations can manage complex environments seamlessly across regional enterprises to realize the full potential of technology advancements to drive their business. In collaboration with Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Dynamic DataCentres, we are enabling these enterprises to minimize the impact that their IT infrastructure has on the environment, making them responsible corporate citizens."

The event also demonstrated how companies in the Middle East are using technology as a utility similar to water or power through a managed service model. Fujitsu Siemens Computers will discuss how organizations in various industry verticals save money by automation of IT tasks, reducing the complexity of their systems, and simplifying their technology management.
