DCCI hosts Printing & Publishing Business Group committee elections

Companies representing Dubai's Printing and Publishing sector met yesterday at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to elect a representative committee comprising of 12 members.

The committee was elected by a general ballot from nominations submitted by the Printing & Publishing Business Group over the past few months.

Chaired by Mr Ahmed Al Banna, Assistant Director General for Studies and International Affairs at DCCI, yesterday's meeting was attended by a large number of business group members.

"Initially, DCCI launched its new business strategy, which included the formation of seven new business groups covering various business sectors in Dubai. Phase two of the new business group programme will see each group electing its own representative committee," Mr. Al Bana said.

He added : "Our records show that this sector comprises of more than 300 companies, covering various aspects of the industry, which totals AED 4-5 billion. The printing and publishing of local news papers alone is valued at AED 1.5 billion".

Elected to sit on the executive panel of the Printing & Publishing Business Group are: Ahmed Bin Hassan Al Shaikh, Managing Director of Modern Printing Press, Abdulsalam Al Banna, Managing Director of International Printing Press, Mohammed Abdulla Al Shirawi, owner of Emirates Printing Press, Mohammed Ali Al Hashemi, Managing Director of Al Al Hashmi Trading Est., Tareq Jawad Ali Al Jawhrji, Managing Director of Color Lines, Abdulla Zubair, Managing Director of Express Print, Thacharackal Zahir Hassan, General Manager of Zabeel Printing Press, Ian Fairservice, Managing Partner of Motivate Publishing, Dr. Englisch Joachim, General Manager of Hiedelberg Middle East FZCO; Wayne Foster, CEO of Al Wahda Express LLC, Jamal Kanaan of Dynagraph of Printing Industry and Amit Radia, Managing Director of Atlas Printing Press.

Newly formed Committee member Ahmed Bin Hassan Al Shaikh, of Modern Printing Press, said that he believed the newly elected committee would play a significant role in serving the interests of this economic sector as a whole.

Enhancing communication levels and collaterally providing plausible solutions to everyday issues and problems were among his priorities for the group.

A total of seven new Dubai-based business groups were set up in October and November. The new groups represent the foodstuffs trading sector, land transport sector, pharmaceuticals and health equipments trading, building materials trading and manufacturing, food and beverages manufacturing, exhibitions and conventions, as well as printing and publishing.

During phase two of the new business group programme, each group will reconvene at DCCI to elect a panel of between eight to 12 representatives.
