Bo Joong Kim, General Manager, AV division, Samsung Gulf Electronics, said:
"Electronics manufacturers have already begun exhibiting these next-generation displays at major trade shows. However, Samsung is going a step further at Gitex, presenting the OLED as a finished TV product that features an elegant, optimized design. Samsung's OLED TVs represent greater technology innovation and set a new standard for TV sophistication."
These chic, ultra-slim OLED TVs employ OLED panels developed by Samsung SDI (the affiliate dedicated to display production). The finished products weigh forty percent less than other LCD TVs of the same size while boasting a contrast ratio of 1 million to one, color gamut of 107% and brightness of 550 cd/m2. Samsung will begin commercial production of mid-/large- sized OLED TVs around 2010.
Also on display at the Samsung booth will be a 52 inch LCD TV, which is the slimmest of the 50 inch products with 1 inch thickness. This product is highly praised because it is that slim even with tuner, power supply and main board embedded. It has a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 550 nit brightness. Mass production of this model is scheduled to begin in 2009, as the company continues to maintain its leadership in the flat panel TV market.
Quadruple full-high definition (QFHD) refers to a resolution of 3,840 pixels by 2,160 pixels, which is four times greater than that for a typical high-definition display. Samsung will unveil the world's largest (82 inch) QFHD LCD TV to date.
Booth visitors will also see a 200 Hz LCD TV which produces more elaborate and sharper videos with less image-sticking effects by increasing the number of still images per second from 60 to 200. The 200 Hz LCD TV, which is available in 40-, 46- and 52-inch sizes, will be unveiled for the first time at Gitex Technology Week 2008.
