  • PRESS RELEASE

Azal, Al Tayer Insignia's multi-brand store with a portfolio of the world's leading fine jewellery and luxury watch brands, is pleased to announce the exclusive launch of Clerc in Dubai, a Geneva-based Haute Horlogerie manufacturer renowned for its pioneering contemporary designs, enriched by genuine mechanical and aesthetic innovation.

Clerc was founded in Paris in 1874, and is now run by Gérald Clerc, watchmaker, representative of the fourth generation and the driving force behind the fresh impetus currently enjoyed by a brand with an internationally recognized style signature.

Gérald Clerc believes that, in order to make a genuine contribution, a creation must represent a break with what already exists. The watch designer did that in 1998 with his very first collection. He invented an entirely new shape, stemming from the combination of a circle and a perfect square. Highly architectural by nature, this unique octagon demonstrates great strength and character and was unprecedented in horology. This patented innovation was duly recognized as such by connoisseurs.

His creations launched at Basel this year, evocatively named Odyssey and Hydroscaph, are no different. The Odyssey's design was inspired by space research and exploration. Each aspect of this newest watch is reminiscent of outer space, which introduces a revolutionary sliding system that protects the crown, pushers and the mechanism of the inner rotating bezel. The Hydroscaph is a powerful and complex futuristic diving instrument designed to withstand extreme conditions in confronting the elements, and which features a world-first adaptable lugs mechanism ensuring a perfect fit on the wrist

Shireen El Khatib, CEO of Al Tayer Insignia commented "We are pleased to welcome Clerc to Azal's growing portfolio of specialist, high-end watch brands. It's a truly exceptional marque, with a rich heritage and a unique and authentic style, and we look forward to presenting their exciting range of models to connoisseurs who will appreciate these distinctive one-of-a-kind creations."

Gérald Clerc, President of Clerc SA said:
"We are most proud and enthused to launch our new futuristic haute horlogerie collections with Al Tayer Insignia in Dubai. We have no doubts that this will be a strong, exciting and long term partnership. Al Tayer has established an impressive track record of dedication to both its discerning clientele and partner brands over the years. We are also impressed with the sophistication of Dubai's local clientele and its fast growing influence over other regional markets."

Numerous prominent figures over successive generations have chosen to wear a Clerc model, because they wanted a unique tailor-made object. This prestigious list includes royalty as such Princess Grace of Monaco, various heads of state, Maurice Chevalier, Salvador Dali, Paco Rabanne and more recently, Michael Douglas, Jack Scalia and Goldie Hawn. For General Charles de Gaulle, Clerc crafted a globe-shaped clock featuring a small dial adorned with a sapphire positioned in the geographical location of Paris, while another ruby-set dial indicated the time in Moscow. The French premier presented this clock as a gift to then soviet leader Nikita Krustchev.

Clerc is available exclusively in Dubai at all Azal stores.
