Business & Finance Fundamentals has been customised to deliver high-impact inputs and practical advice according to the needs and requirements of the 70 participants of the Promising Leaders Program, a level of MBRPLD that aims to prepare a vital, elite and strategic professional manpower reserve that is capable of sustaining the leadership requirements of Dubai Government in line with its strategic plan and international and regional aspirations.

The discussions focused on the impact of the current global financial crisis on the local economy and the role of strategic management in dealing with these challenges. The Business & Finance Fundamentals training module seeks to achieve three specific objectives: business and commercial awareness; strategic focus; and client focus.
Business and commercial awareness will deal with the capacity of the participants to be well informed about financial and commercial matters, particularly in terms of profitability, costs and business opportunities that will generate sound commercial returns.
The strategic focus aspect aims at helping participants better understand their department's vision and how this is reflected in day-to-day decisions.
It also considers the impact of one's role and work area on the overall strategic objectives. The client focus component equips the participant with the capacity to create value by understanding the clients, their needs and expectations and how to meet these in a high-quality manner.
PDP has been created to educate participants in effective thought processes, strategic planning for the future, successful implementation of action plans and self-reflection on what has been learned and achieved as well as the succeeding goals.
The activity helps participants develop the ability to articulate personal goals and evaluate progress towards their achievement; become more effective, independent and confident self-directed learners; understand how they are learning and relate their learning to a wider context; improve their general skills for study, career management and marketing themselves to employers; and take a positive attitude to learning throughout life, educational and career development.
The primary objectives of the Promising Leaders Program are to empower participants to develop key managerial skills and capabilities; ensure a comprehensive understanding and awareness of the government's duties; develop the participants' skills and abilities according to each job description; and develop and support in the implementation of the participants' development plans.
