The City Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City officially opens today

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai officially opened today with a ribbon cutting ceremony The City Hospital - the first multi-disciplinary hospital in Dubai Healthcare City.

The City Hospital, a 210 bed, technologically advanced multi-disciplinary hospital, offers sophisticated diagnostic facilities and specialised treatment in a wide range of medical disciplines to ensure that each patient receives the highest available standard of healthcare.

Mr. Sunny Varkey, Chairman of the Varkey Group, speaking at the opening commented:

"We are delighted to be opening The City Hospital today. Firstly, it marks another step forward for us as a healthcare provider to offer care of the highest standard, and secondly, we hope that it demonstrates our commitment to contribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision - to position Dubai as a world leader in healthcare."


Offering expertise in a comprehensive range of medical disciplines, The City Hospital will provide patients with expertise in a variety of specialist areas that include cardiology and cardiac surgery, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, family medicine, general practice, internal medicine, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, endocrinology, vascular surgery ophthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics and neonatology, pulmonology, plastic surgery, nephrology, anaesthesia, gastroenterology, breast surgery, radiology, urology, intensive care unit and emergency department.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Senior Vice President of Dubai Healthcare City commented; "On behalf of Dubai Healthcare City, I can proudly say that today marks an achievement of yet another milestone for DHCC specifically, and for the UAE Healthcare industry generally. With the opening of The City Hospital, we have successfully managed to add a world-class healthcare provider that will add an additional 210 beds in line with our vision of building an international location of choice for quality healthcare services, medical education and research."

The City Hospital has sourced the best medical equipment and medical technologies from around the world, and has some of the most modern and advanced equipment in the UAE, including a 3T MRI, a 64 slice CT scanner, digital mammography for the most accurate breast cancer checks, a Digital Bone Densitometer for efficient osteoporosis assessment, as well as a digital catheterization laboratory, a full on-site pathology laboratory, conventional radiology, and ultrasound facilities.

The City Hospital is managed by EHL Management Services (formerly known as Welcare World Health Systems), a joint venture between the South African private hospital group, Medi-Clinic Corporation, the Dubai based Varkey Group and GE.

Medi-Clinic Corporation, listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange, owns and manages 51 hospitals in South Africa and three in Namibia, and owns Hirslanden AG, the leading private hospital group in Switzerland with 13 hospitals.

These strategic alliances enable The City Hospital to implement international best practices.
