With over 100 easy to download games and other software packages to choose from, Nokia's Symbian or Java-enabled mobiles can be customised to their owner's taste.

The variety of software available will allow Nokia owners to control their home or office PC from their Nokia 6310i or Nokia 9200 Communicator series and others that provide direct updates to your phone on the state of your stock portfolio.

Bolstering the power of these phones are applications that offer an archive/compression tool, photo management and editing, or encryption protection for data on the phone. The games available on the site include the latest in technology advances allowing 3D graphics, complex challenge and board games and multi-player games that utilise Bluetooth technology.

Software is currently available for Nokia 6310i, Nokia 7650 and Nokia 9200 Communicator series. Organised according to four categories: entertainment, business, personal productivity and content management tools, Nokia offers software developers the opportunity to have their applications tested. Once approved, applications will receive the Nokia "OK" logo.

"We are continuously working to enhance the mobile experience of our customers beyond phones and accessories by developing services and applications which are becoming an essential part mobile offerings," said Jarmo Hostio, Business Development Manager for Nokia Middle East. "The development of applications for this sector will give new freedom and flexibility of personalization, as well as a significant edge for increased efficiency."

Software Market is a global marketplace operated by Digital River allowing developers from across the world to reach a huge audience. Nokia is encouraging Middle East developers to develop local applications for the Web site using tools at www.forum.nokia.com. In early November Nokia launched its Series 60 competition for local developers to create the most popular applications offering over $30,000 in prizes.

"Software Market gives small software developers immediate access to global markets" Mr Hostio continued. "The Middle East is overflowing with creativity and the Forum Nokia and Software Market Web sites provide a vehicle for this innovation to easily generate income for local developers."
