ADU signs MoU with American Purdue University, Calumet

For the first time in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi University will now offer a Masters program in Engineering Administration in cooperation with the American Purdue University, Calumet USA.

The program aims to prepare students in various fields in Engineering Administration, by applying the latest scientific and practical methods used by prestigious enterprises in the field. Dr. Nabil A. Ibrahim, the ADU Chancellor, announced this to the media after signing a memorandum of understanding between the two universities in Abu Dhabi yesterday. Professor Dr. Howard Cohen, Chancellor of Purdue University, Calumet, and a number of administrative and educational representatives were in attendance.

Dr. Nabil pointed out ADU's interest in establishing scientific cooperation with different prestigious universities and academic centers around the world, aimed at reinforcing the capability of the university to carry out its prerogative as a 21st century university, garnering the best scientific methods of teaching, conducting scientific research, and answering society's needs.

Dr. Nabil noted that signing the memorandum of understanding opens a wide field of joint cooperation between the two universities, particularly in terms of offering academic programs, conducting scientific research, and the exchange of visits between the academic faculty and students of both universities.

Professor Dr. Cohen stressed the significance of this collaborative effort, which is considered to be a first of its kind with an academic institute from this region for Purdue University, Calumet.

He also noted that there are several fields which make up the general framework of this cooperation in the near future, beginning with launching joint scientific research projects in the fields of energy, water resources, advanced technologies and other projects, in addition to the possibility of organizing joint scientific conferences between the two universities to discuss a variety of topics that are of interest to the various development sectors in the region.

Dr. Yosser Gadhoum pointed out that the Masters of Engineering Administration program will be taught at the Abu Dhabi University campus, where professors from Purdue University, Calumet, will deliver lectures of 4 - 6 courses, and each course will be taught over an intensive two week period, followed by electronic distance education and communication for follow-up after the return of the professor to the university in the United States. Scientific assistants from ADU will also be participating in the follow-up process until the end of the program. The Masters of Engineering Administration program requires students to complete 12 courses or 36 credit hours, and that would take from 2 to 3 years according to the circumstances of each student.
