Muscat Private Hospital holds CME on Ankle Instability and Heel Pain
- Oman: Saturday, October 25 - 2008 at 14:28
- PRESS RELEASE
The Muscat Private Hospital (MPH) successfully concluded the 19th session of 'Doctrain', its Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme.
Dr. Meyer addressed the topic of 'Ankle Instability and Heel Pain' and highlighted the latest developments surrounding them. He emphasised the importance of correct diagnosis for patients having chronic ankle pain and instabilities, especially in cases where signs of damage are not revealed in x-rays. Dr. Meyer also discussed common Heel Pain or Plantar Fasciitis and explained the various differences in Heel Pain and its treatment options.
"Correct diagnosis is the first step to pain free living", says Dr Meyer. Hailing from top Medical University, the University of Geneva in Switzerland, the doctor is a leading Foot and Ankle Surgeon worldwide, with more than 30 years of clinical experience in the field of Foot and Ankle pathology.
Dr Meyer recommends CT scans for all patients suffering from a chronic painful ankle, because he opines that 40 per cent of the patients suffer from osteochondral fractures, which never show in ordinary x-rays. The only treatment then is to remove the small fractures by surgery. Prof. Meyer insists on the importance of strict physiotherapy treatment for these types of patients with experienced and well-trained physiotherapists, such as that available at MPH.
Till date Prof. Meyer has operated on more than 12,000 patients and has been the Head of the Foot & Ankle Surgery Department at the Hospital Cantonal Universitaire de Geneva for more than 14 years. He also worked as the Head Foot & Ankle Surgeon at a leading private hospital, Hospital Grangettes in Geneva. Furthermore, he is a member of a very busy clinic at the prestigious IM2S hospital in Monaco, which is considered to be one of the top-class private hospitals for orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine in Europe.
"MPH's CME programme aims at educating medical professionals throughout the Sultanate about the latest developments in the field of medicine, especially in areas such as orthopaedics that have advanced considerably in the recent past," comments Gary Dorahy, Country Manager of United Medical who managed MPH.
Prof Meyer is available for consultation at Muscat Private Hospital until November 5, 2008.
